What is SF Chicks with Sticks?
We're a knitting group founded by Kathy Barobs and Gabbi Pope in November 2003. We're a group of women and a couple of guys (yes, guys are welcome!) who meet every week for a couple of hours of knitting, crocheting and cocktails at Bliss Bar in San Francisco.
Where do you meet?
We meet at Bliss Bar, 4026 24th Street in Noe Valley, San Francisco. Bliss is between Noe and Castro Streets. You can get there from the SF Muni J Church and various bus routes. There is also street parking.
When do you meet?
Monday nights at 6:30. We are usually there until at least 9:30.
Can I Join?
Sure, we always welcome new people. Join our Yahoo Group to see our calendar and get updates by email.
Does it cost anything?
Nope, it doesn't cost a thing! However, we suggest buying a drink or two and tip your bartender! Pierre and Deb are really good to us, and we want to keep them happy.
Do I have to know how to knit?
Nope, come enhance your skills if you're a beginner. None of us teach knitting professionally but we're happy to give guidance and to get you on your way to knitting your first scarf. Bring a pair of needles size 9, 10 or 11 is good and some yarn. Look for a yarn that is a little thicker and not black so you can see the stitches easier. We can also suggest places to take classes.
Where can I buy supplies?
Check our links for where to buy yarn locally. You can also just go to Michael's or Jo-Ann online.
How can I send a message or question to everyone in the group?
Please feel free to comment on any blog posts or ask questions. Just click any "comments" link under any post, and leave your comment!
What's a "Knit Along"?
A Knit Along is where a bunch of us work on the same knitting project at the same time. Its a great way for beginners to try harder projects. Its good for everyone because if you run into a problem with a pattern someone else may have already figured it out.
Do I have to do the Knit Along you are doing?
No, Silly. A lot of people work on their own projects at the same time. Only do a knit along if you are interested in that project.
How do I suggest a project for a Knit Along?
Feel free to post comments with your suggestions. If enough people are interested, we'll give it a try.
I like your logo, can I use it?
We like it too! Our logo was designed by Mary Ann Cotter at MACdesign. Please contact her for permission to use her artwork. We have knitting bags, tees, postcards and all kinds of logo-emblazoned stuff in our store too.
Hmmm, my question isn't listed here.
Feel free to email us and we'll try to answer. Our emails are listed on the homepage.
See you soon!
